Hantei: Blade of the Judgment Hero

Shin-Kyoto glittered beneath a rain of holographic advertisements, its towers rising over streets where old shrines stood beside neon markets[cite: 1]. Kisaragi Ren had spent years hunting creatures that slipped through cracks between worlds[cite: 1]. He was good at it, quiet about it, and increasingly unsure whether the Imperial Judgment Order protected the city—or merely kept its citizens afraid of what lived beyond it[cite: 1]. On the night the sky split open, Ren was escorting a sealed relic through the abandoned district of Kurohama[cite: 1]. The relic was a black sword hilt wrapped in prayer-cloth[cite: 1]. It had been silent for three hundred years[cite: 1]. Then the clouds above the district turned crimson, and the hilt began to beat like a second heart[cite: 1]. A masked demon dropped from a rooftop and attacked the escort convoy[cite: 1]. Ren drew his ordinary blade, but the creature shattered it with a single blow[cite: 1]. The relic tore free from its case and flew into Ren’s hand[cite: 1]. Light burst across his arm, carving a mark into his skin[cite: 1]. A voice whispered inside his skull: “Judge only what you understand.”[cite: 1] The demon lunged again[cite: 1]. Ren lifted the relic, and a blade of violet spirit-fire formed from its hilt[cite: 1]. One cut sent the attacker dissolving into ash[cite: 1]. Across the street, a woman in a crimson coat watched from beneath a broken awning[cite: 1]. Her smile suggested she had been waiting for this moment—and that she knew far more than she intended to reveal[cite: 1]. “Congratulations, Judgment Hero,” she called[cite: 1]. “You’ve just inherited a war.”[cite: 1]
